This piece is easy to read having very neat writing, reliable, consistent spelling and a crystal clear image. There are a couple of spelling variants of birthplaces for which I have added notes.
The enumerator has on a few occasions ignored the following instruction: -
“where there is more than one Occupier in the same house, draw a single line to distinguish each family”.
Whilst he has drawn a single line as instructed he has also, erroneously, assigned a separate schedule number to the additional occupier. Thus, if you are searching for a particular name you will not be presented the complete household. I have marked the few occurrences in the notes, giving the name and age of the head of the other family. Notes are indicated by a link in the census data and may be viewed by following that link.
There is also an error in the schedule numbers around the 114-117 mark. Number 117 is missing and there are two number 114.

This piece has clear images and legible writing but the enumerator has a particular difficulty with his spelling. This is also inconsistent i.e. different spellings of the same word are employed arbitrarily. Similarly, capitalization is inconsistent.
The following are examples encountered; they may simply be unusual variant spellings. However, given such examples as ‘dairy made‘ as an occupation, ‘Sent Helens‘ as a location and over 7 different spellings of the word labourer there is some justification in assuming that the majority, if not all, are genuine misspellings. Therefore, I have added the most likely standard and/or local alternatives in the notes.

This piece is relatively easy to read having neat but small handwriting. The spelling is generally reliable and consistent and the image is clear. There are a few variants of birthplace names for which I have added notes.
Catherine is always spelt Cathrine
Esther is always spelt Easther
George is always spelt Gorge
Michael is always spelt Michel
The schedule number that lies between schedule number 22 and 24 may read 23 or 28.
The enumerator makes heavy use of the ‘Do’ the abbreviation for ditto. This is then extended by the use of ‘Do Do’, marking the repetition of two previous words. However, the use is inconsistent and sometimes misleading, for instance :-
Example 1
Agr Labr
Do Do
Here the dittos are used to represent the two words in the previous entry.
Example 2
Paviour
Do wife
Do Son
Here the ditto represents not Paviour but Paviour’s.
Example 3
Shoe Maker Master
Do Do
Do Do
Do Do
Here the double ditto represents not Shoe Maker but Shoe Maker’s Wife, Shoe Maker’s Son and Shoe Maker’s Daughter.
Example 4
Farmer of 28 acres employ 2 men
Farmers Wife
Do Do
Here the Do Do is used to mean Farmer’s son as the record is for an 11month old boy. In its proper use the Do Do should represent Farmers Wife.
Users are advised to study the translation for themselves and interpret if required the exact meaning of the ‘Do’ against other information for the record.
