Volunteering - Transcribing
Transcribing parish records can be very rewarding. No previous experience is needed, nor do you need any specialist equipment. You do not have to live in Lancashire, nor do you have to live near to a record office or library. Our transcribers come from all over the world. Volunteers are given full instructions and support, and you will be able to try out what s involved at the start. If you decide it s not for you, just let us know.
We are expecting to begin our next full round of recruitment in October 2026. At that time, we will post details of what's available, so watch this space!
Meanwhile, we have just a few transcribing vacancies available now, for Liverpool Church of England Marriages and Liverpool Cemetery Burials ONLY. You'll need:
Our Liverpool coordinator says: "Liverpool is an interesting place to transcribe registers for and quite different from most Lancashire towns and cities. It was a large port, so there are some entries for foreign names. People came from other countries and settled there, particularly from Ireland and Wales. The congregations varied enormously, some churches serving traditional English communities, others a mix of people who settled there from both England and elsewhere. The registers reflect this, but help is available and we have street directories and lists of old occupations. The registers are often very large, but we split them into sections so that they are less daunting."
If you are interested in these Liverpool roles, please send an email to our Volunteer Coordinator using this link and tell us:
