Opportunities to Volunteer

All of the information on this site is collected and transcribed by volunteers. We welcome offers of help from those who visit our site and who would like to join in this exciting project. Opportunities will vary from time to time, but may include transcribing Lancashire parish records, taking photographs of churches or registers, and helping to collect other material such as historical data. If you have a particular parish of interest, and especially if you happen to live locally or know a lot about the parish, you may be able to help collect and present this information.

Transcribing parish records can be very rewarding. No previous experience is needed, nor do you need any specialist equipment. You do not have to live in Lancashire, nor do you have to live near to a record office or library. Our transcribers come from all over the world. You do need to have access to a computer and be familiar with the basics of using it. The computer will need to have either Excel or Open Office (which is free to download). Volunteers are given full instructions and support, and will be asked to try out the task of transcribing before committing themselves further.

If we do not have any vacancies at the time you volunteer, we will offer to keep your name on the list and contact you when new opportunities come up. If you are interested, please send an email using this link. Please let us know which type(s) of work interest you - transcribing, photography and/or research, and which area(s) of Lancashire are of most interest. If you have any skills, experience or local knowledge which you feel would be particularly useful, please let us know, and it would also be useful to know roughly whereabouts you live (address is NOT required). We look forward to hearing from you!
