OnLine Parish Clerks
Opportunities to Volunteer
All of the information on this site is collected and transcribed by volunteers. We welcome offers of help from those who visit our site and who would like to join in this exciting project. Opportunities will vary from time to time, but may include transcribing Lancashire parish records, taking photographs of churches or registers, and helping to collect other material such as historical data. If you have a particular parish of interest, and especially if you happen to live locally or know a lot about the parish, you may be able to help collect and present this information.
Transcribing parish records can be very rewarding. No previous experience is needed, nor do you need any specialist equipment. You do not have to live in Lancashire, nor do you have to live near to a record office or library. Our transcribers come from all over the world. Before you volunteer as a transcriber, please make sure that you have Excel or Open Office (free to download) on your PC, and that you are very confident in using it. Volunteers are given full instructions and support, and will be asked to try out the task of transcribing before committing themselves further.
At the moment, we have no vacancies for transcribers but please do keep an eye on this page which will change from time to time.
However, we are looking for people to help with register photography (see details).
If you are interested please send an email using this link. It would also be useful to know roughly whereabouts you live (address is NOT required). We look forward to hearing from you!
