Opportunities to Volunteer
All of the information on this site is collected and transcribed by volunteers. We welcome offers of help from those who visit our site and who would like to join in this exciting project. Most volunteers become involved in transcribing Lancashire parish records, but there are also opportunities to help collect other material such as historical data and photographs. If you have a particular parish of interest, and especially if you happen to live locally or know a lot about the parish, you may be able to help collect and present this information.
Transcribing parish records can be very rewarding. No previous experience is needed, nor do you need any specialist equipment. You do not have to live in Lancashire, nor do you have to live near to a record office or library. Our transcribers come from all over the world. You do need to have access to a computer with spreadsheet software (ideally Excel), and be familiar with the basics of using one. Volunteers are given full instructions and support, and there is an opportunity to try out the task of transcribing before you commit yourself further.
Please note that transcribers may be asked to work on registers from any part of the county, wherever the need is greatest. If you have an interest in a particular area or parish, let us know and we will do our best to match your interests, but we cannot guarantee this.
If you feel you would like to contribute to the efforts of this scheme, please send an email using this link. It would be useful to know which spreadsheet you use and whereabouts you live (address is NOT required). If you have any skills, experience or information which you feel would be particularly useful, please let us know.
