George Fox (1624-1691) was an English Dissenter and a founder of the Religious Society of Friends commonly known as the Quakers or Friends.
From 1652, Swarthmoor Hall became the base for his work which helped the spread and growth of Quakerism throughout the north of England. Meetings were held at the Hall until 1688 when He was given the Meeting House nearby. The Meeting House is still in use today.
