Memorial Inscriptions in the Churchyard of St George
in the Parish of Tyldesley

Welcome to this collection of records from St. George’s church in Tyldesley, I hope these records are of use to you.

It must be said that St George’s church have a policy of allowing the grass to overgrow the headstones which also hindered the recordings. If you do discover errors or can clarify some of the information please let me.

The map of the graveyard will give you an idea of where the headstones are located with the following notation.

These are the headstones that are raised above ground level.
These are the headstones that are set into the grass, most of these are ledger type although some of these were originally vertical headstones which have previously been laid down to reduce the risk of damage.

A number of headstones could not be recorded due to being almost completely overgrown with grass, these have still been marked on the graveyard plan. It must be expected that other headstones were already completely overgrown and as such have not been located or marked on the plan.
