Baptisms at St George

Parish of Tyldesley
From about 1837 to 1851 during the period of Jacob Robson’s ministry it became the practice to add cryptic symbols in the margin of some entries. The significance of the symbols is not stated anywhere in the register, but they appear to be related to individual entries rather than marks of an administrative nature. The practice ceased when George Richards became the incumbent in 1851.The symbols are mostly of four types:-
