Between July and November 1883 marriages at Stalmine took place in the school as St James Church was being restored.

On July 16th 1888 a marriage took place at St James Stalmine instead of St John the Baptist, Pilling because the old church of St John the Baptist had been closed and the new church had not been fully completed.
