The District of Marshside, Southport in the County of -- Lancashire --

Fishing was an important industry back in the Middle Ages in the area and a town began to develop as fisherman built their houses closer to the sea. By the 1800's, sea fishing was of considerable importance to the economy, not to mention shrimp, cockles and mussels. This district became known as Marshside.
