Holy Trinity was founded in 1674, although the present church dates from 1874 after being completely rebuilt to a design by Paley and Austin, a firm of Lancaster architects who designed many churches in the area.

One of Wordsworth’s Duddon sonnets is dedicated to the church and the Revd. Robert Walker (1709-1802) who was the minister for 66 years.
