in the Parish of Goodshaw

Goodshaw Baptisms 1728-1783 Notes

[Entry at the beginning of the Baptisms] The following Registers are copies taken from the old Register Book, the entries are the same as the original. July 1831.

[Records 1014-1025 have no year. A note at the top of the page says] In the original this Page 38 has no year of our Lord at the beginning.

Questions to which by direction of an Act passed in the Eleventh Year of the Reign of His Majesty King George the Fourth, intitled [sic] “An Act for taking an Account of the Population of Great Britain, and of the Increase or Diminuition thereof” written Answers are to be returned by the Rector, Vicar, Curate, or other Officiating Minister of every Parish, Township or Place (Extra-parochial or otherwise) in England including Free Chapels etc.

Referring to Section XIX of the Parish Register Act of 1812 (inserted in your Register of Baptisms be pleased hereunder to insert or to affix a list of all the Register Books, Burials and Marriages (whether bound or otherwise) remaining in your Parish or Chapelry continuing entries anterior to the Year 1813; stating the periods at which the ? Registers commence and terminate; and the periods (if any) during which they are deficient? If you retain copy of such list transmitted to the Registrar of the diocese in June 1813, transcript thereof would be satisfactory on the present occasion. No copy could be found.

Anterior to the Year 1813; there are at Goodshaw two Register Books of Baptisms and Burials. The first Baptism in the first book is dated May 18th 1732; and the last in the same book is dated April 8th 1783. The first Baptism in the second book is dated Oct 10th 1783 and the last in the same book is dated Feb 9th 1812.

The first funeral in the first book is dated April 23rd 1755 and the last in the same book is dated June 7th 1783. The first funeral in the second book is dated October 11th 1783 and the last in the same book is dated March 25th 1812.

No entries of funerals at Goodshaw Chapel appear from the year 1751 to 1766 nor from 1773 to 1776 showing a deficiency of eight years in the whole.

What was the number of Baptisms and Burials in your Parish or Chapelry in the several years 1821, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, and 30; distinguishing Males from Females?
