St Paul's started in the 1870's as a mission from St Mary's Rawtenstall in a warehouse above Leebrook Foundry.
The increase in properties in the late 1890's created a demand for a church, a plot of land was donated by Richard Hardman of Cliffe Tower.
Building work started in 1901 to a design by the Lancaster architects Austin and Paley and the church was consecrated 19 March 1903 providing seating for 332 people. It is now a Grade II listed building.
