St Clement, Spotland Photograph by kind permission and © of Mike Berrell, 2013 |
St. Clement’s sits high on the hill near Spotland Bridge and is surrounded by beautiful grounds. There is evidence of worship taking place in Spotland for over 200 years. The present Church was designed by Lewis Vuilliamy, and built in 1835, at a cost of £4430. The land was given by James Royds of Mount Falinge. The Royds vault is in St. Clement’s graveyard and also the remains of James Mannock, who was one of the Rochdale Pioneers. |
