See the bibliography for details of where parish registers from 1812 to 1837 can be seen. Transcripts of registers after 1837 have been done but are not available except by look up request below or in the search room at the Lancashire Records Office in preston.

For information about the parish church of All Saints, click on the CHURCHES link at the top of that web page and then on ALL SAINTS.

The book “A History of Rainford Parish Church, 1541 – 2003” may be purchased by contacting rainfordhistory. The book costs £6 plus postage and packing. There is also a video that will work on U.K. based systems for £10 plus shipping and handling.

Through the same email address lookups are offered in the church parish registers, monumental inscriptions and photos of the gravestones. This free look up service is provided by a volunteer connected with the church and is not currently affiliated with the OPC project.

The OPC also holds transcripts of the parish registers from 1704 to 1837 and copies of other material as detailed in the bibliography.

LancashireBMD is making progress in indexing births, marriages and deaths that were registered in this district. It is recommended to review their site. This provides access to births, marriages and deaths registered only AFTER 1st July 1837 and allows you to order the certificate from the local registry office instead of the national registration system. Do check the coverage link to see what records have been transcribed. Marriages at the parish church should also be in the parish church records.

FreeBMD may also be consulted for births, marriages and deaths registered in this district after 1st July 1837. This is also a work in progress that is not yet complete.

CENSUS RECORDS

You should also consult the FreeCEN site although it is only just getting started and not much may be available.

Copies of the census books have been made available or are in process by Stepping Stones, S&N Genealogy and Archive CD Project. The various census and other records can be searched online at: Familysearch

All census transcriptions should be used as an index as the original records may be in very poor shape and pencil was used to record much of the original information. Some searchers have found ancestors by searching on first names, so be creative. Legal Notice: Although not bound by the UK 1998 Data Protection Act, this site is in full compliance as no information will be posted on live people at any time.

The following records have been transcribed and are made available. Please note that the pages can be read on line or you can right click and select SAVE AS to place a copy on your computer. To locate a name within the file use "FIND" which is under the EDIT menu item in Internet Explorer. Non commercial usage is encouraged although copyright remains vested in the General Records Office, London.:
