Melling is a parish and village on the River Lune in the rural deanery of Tunstal. The ancient parish consisted of the townships of Arkholme-with-Cawood, Farleton, Hornby, Melling with Wrayton, Roeburndale, Wennington and Wray with Botton. Much of the area is used for farming and the township of Melling with Wrayton had a population of 186 in 1891. (Abbreviated from Kelly’s Directory 1895) |
