In the 16th century, St Peters Church was known as Blackley Chapel and was superseded in 1736 by a building which needed extending in order to house the growing population. The foundation stone of the new church was laid on 19th April 1844 and on 29th September the new St Peter’s (the current building) was consecrated by the then bishop of Chester. |
