Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Knowsley
Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Knowsley

Knowsley became an independent ecclesiastical district in 1844, when the present church, dedicated to St. Mary the Virgin, was erected on the order of the 13th Earl of Derby. The vicarage was built in 1869. In 1871 the Memorial Chapel was added by the 14th Earl, and it contains a monument to him, the work of William Noble. The pews of the Derby family occupy a prominent place, and there is also a Derby Chapel in the north of the choir.
