Hapton was previously in the Parish of St Leonard Padiham.
Prior to the opening of St Margaret, Church of England Services were held in the school room at Hapton by one of the clergy from Padiham.
The church of St Margaret was founded in 1914 but not built until 1924 and is still in use today as a united benefice with Padiham St Leonard.
