These records are Baptisms from the Bishops Transcripts for the Parish of Dalton in Furness which includes the Chapelries of Ireleth, Rampside, and Walney. They cover the period 1855 to 1866, 1868 (Rampside only), and 1869 to 1871. Four Parish Registers cover this period and in all cases the Transcripts refer to the Page and Entry Nos of the original Registers. The records have been split to recreate these registers.

Registers
The first Register is the last part of an ongoing Register and is from 28 Jan 1855 (Page 48, Entry 384) to 16 Nov 1856 (Page 100, Entry 800).
The second Register is from 16 Nov 1856 (Page 1, Entry 1) to 12 June 1859 (Page 100, Entry 800), except that Pages 70 and 71 are missing (between 19 Sep 1858 and 10 Oct 1858).
The third Register is from 12 Jun 1859 (Page 1, Entry 1) to 3 Jun 1866 (Page 200, Entry 1600), except that Pages 130 and 131 are missing (between 1 Nov 1863 and 17 Jan 1864).
The fourth Register is from ? June 1866 (Page 1, Entry 1) to 31 Dec 1871 (Page 126, Entry 1008), except that a large piece of the Register between 24 Dec 1866 and 3 Jan 1869 is missing; this is from Page 13 Entry 103 to Page 58 Entry 461 inclusive and includes all records from 1867 and 1868, with the apparent exception of Rampside Chapel returns for 1868 by the Incumbent, John Park.

Chapels
The records from the three Chapelries are often identified clearly within the Bishops Transcripts and this information has again been transcribed. This was frequently done by the Ministers writing a heading in the Register above a group of baptisms from a given Chapel but they did not record the Chapel on each individual baptism. In order to assist those who wish to know the Chapel of baptism, this information has been recorded as Notes in square brackets. It must be borne in mind that the evidence for baptism in a particular Chapel varies with individual records, and readers are advised to seek confirmation in the original registers. Typically the baptisms at Rampside were inserted several times during the year as accumulated records were sent to Dalton, and this resulted in these records being out of date sequence with the Dalton records already in the Register. On the other hand, the records from Ireleth and Walney were normally received as a full annual return and often not received at Dalton until the following year, when they were placed in the Register (again out of date sequence with the Dalton records). There is information in the Bishops Transcripts recording that a separate Register was operated at Ireleth Chapel after 5 Mar 1865 and there are no Ireleth baptisms in the Bishops Transcripts after that date. A similar event may have occurred with Walney Chapel because these too cease part-way through the Bishops Transcripts.
