Baptisms at St Luke
in the District of Halliwell, Bolton le Moors
The first baptisms attributed to St Luke Halliwell were performed in the School Church of St Luke between 21 Jan 1861 and 17 Sep 1871. After St Luke's church opened, the details of those baptisms were copied into register pages by the acting church warden who recorded on the last page that:
"The foregoing baptisms were solemnized in the School Church in the Conventional District of St Luke, in the parish of St Peter, Halliwell, and were entered in a memorandum book by the respective clergymen who performed the service – they have been carefully copied into these sheets for the purpose of being kept and preserved with the Register of Baptisms solemnized in the Church of Saint Luke. And I hereby certify that the same are correct. Thomas Beswick, acting church warden during the above period. N.B. the first baptism in the church register is the next following No.86 in these sheets. T.B."
