St Richard.s is located on Mayfield Street next to Atherton Baths. Mayfield Street runs between the main shopping street, Market Street, and Hamilton Street to the south. Car access is from Hamilton Street.

The present church dedicated to St Richard of Chichester was built in 1927, but the Presbytery dates from 1908, and St Richard's School was opened on Mayfield Street in 1891. The church lacks the visual aesthetics of Sacred Heart, but is well-located in the centre of town for Atherton's Roman Catholic worshipers.
