Church of the Holy Family

Although not within the Astley parish, this church is only a few hundred yards outside the parish and prior to St Ambrose Barlow church being founded in 1965 Holy Family was the church used by a lot of the Roman Catholics in Astley.

As early as 1894 a room was used for mass by Father Grobel and in 1895 a site was acquired for the erection of the Holy Family school. In 1924 land adjacent to the school was purchased for the building of a church. The church was completed in 1930 with Father Blake being in charge.

If you are interested in earlier Roman Catholic records you should consider St Joseph’s church in Leigh, copies of registers available from 1778, or Sacred Hearts church in Atherton, copies of registers available from 1865.
